eMteMind: Why do some states vote for laws instead of having the laws passed through the legislative process?
I understand how state laws become enacted, but I am confused as to why certain laws or “propositions” get placed on ballots during elections. How do they determine which laws will be placed on ballots?

Propositions exist so a population can bypass a state government that is not listening to the majority of the people. They also exist, and this more important for today’s country, to bypass activist courts that are setting public policy.
Whether you agree with their stances or not, activist courts are overstepping their authority all over the country. You’ll be seeing more propositions.
