I read something on this years ago, it’s both interesting and sad at the same time.
There isn’t much joy in being poor so a child is usually the only joy in a poor persons life. Also, remember contraception costs money and you need to be responsible enough to use it too.
Answer by D JBecause they are not intelligent enough to put thought into it. Or maybe they are: More kids = Bigger welfare check. It’s a way of life for lots of people. I guess the real question is why does the government support these people – infact almost encourage it? Heck, I might start pumping out kids too – I want to do nothing and get paid also!Answer by jessica_sweet_tv

WHAT?? How did you come to this conclusion? What facts do you have to back this question up with??Answer by az
Lots of reasons:
1-it feels good and very little else in their lives feel good
2-it gives them a sense of closeness to someone (being needed by someone/comfort etc)
3-they can’t afford birth control or are ignorant to it or listen to religious leaders (less educated/poor people tend to be more religious) who tell them condoms are a sin
4-it’s free entertainment
5-it has become part of their sub-culture
6-they are human
7-some want a baby to love/be loved by w/out understanding the responsibility
I’m sure there are more I’m not thinking of…Answer by truly
Having sex is fun and FREE. However, condoms are free too, but don’t get used very often. Maybe having children is their way of controlling their universe; They can’t make money but they can make babies.Answer by Angela B
I’d hate to spoil your little party.
In the US, welfare benefits are limited after so many children.
Studies have shown that less than 5% of children in welfare families were born while their parents were on welfare.
Why people want to engage in this talk is very difficult for me to understand … particularly when it is likely that the asker has not been in the shoes of those he or she is attacking.
Answer by sahr0002If you are uneployed or underemployed, you have a lot of extra time around the house. Sex is great entertainment. If you have a job, but are living below the poverty line, you probably don’t have a lot of money to go out for entertainment or gas money. So…
Also, someone living below the poverty line probably has a different outlook on their life. The live for today mentality probably rules. Why? Because there is a lot of uncertainty, you never know when you’re entire situation will change.
Another thing to remember is that although it is a difficult process, the State does provide assistance for children and families in poverty.
I would hardly want to live in a society where we let those less fortunate starve, but we do enable people living below the poverty line to support their children.
In other countries, this practice has historically been to support the parents in old age, help with the labor as well as making sure that enough children will survive diseases and disasters to become adults.
Answer by correrafanThe “poverty line” is a artificially generated demarcation that does not describe anything that happens in real life. In case you haven’t heard, the human sex drive seems almost irresistible and undampable to the exclusion of even food and water and shelter. Trying to fight one of the most basic of all biological drives by drawing a line across an accounting table is futile.Answer by Diesel77
Why do people above the poverty line have spandex and ten speed bikes that temp those below the poverty line to run them over and laugh?Answer by mr. yaser
i live in a country where 85% people are under poverty line. you people are using ur logics but i have the fact. many children means many working hand, these children either dont go to school or even if they go to school they work side by side with their parents when they return back. their is a joint family system. any one who earns bring it to home and use it collectively no matter how much they earn. in poverty if a man has no children he becomes more poorer.Answer by peter rabbie
Because most ppl that are poor have alot of kids,Its sad but true. And most have a 2nd grade avg.in school. But its not a funny thing to laught about,Its real sadAnswer by amber_tree
I have to agree with Angela B on this. Unless you can give some statistics on this, I’m having a hard time believing you even stated the question.
Besides, poor people aren’t allowed to have sex? Do you think they should get your permission first? Only rich people are? That’s news to me.
It’s very easy for you to judge when you don’t know someone’s situation. The birth mother of the boy we’re adopting is in this situation. Since we cannot conceive, we see this little boy as a gift to us. If this woman had not given birth to him, we would not have him in our lives.Answer by DAVID B

Most of them are not educated and too ignorant. It sounds funny, but they don’t work, they don’t have anything to do, they don’t have another “hobby”. Meanwhile, government pays…..and you pay taxes…..Ironic!Answer by nigelbestpeace
it is like a shopkeeper has fallen asleep and someone has come into the shop and is exposing himself in the window – it is like a number of little boys who stone a kitten, laughing, and then go home and dont say to their mothers: oh mother, me and my friends stoned a kitten, we had such fun, because they suddenly know it was not something they wanted to do, and they are confused and upset and cant understand that they did such a thing, and put it out of their minds and vow never to do it again, and have a tiny corner of themselves that feels bad about themselves forever after
whereas it wasnt them that did it, it was something that took their minds over while they were sleeping – we humans have the most inexplicable psychology, and we often arent even awake enough to realise we have this peculiar, inexplicable psychology, and that we fall asleep and something takes over our minds
most of you answerers fell asleep and were instantly taken over by this something that readily fell in line with the questioner who started the game of slandering the poor
you know that the poor are not a separate species, but people, of the same species as you, people who command smaller incomes, not necessarily less educated, less responsible, more cynical exploiters of welfare, more ignorant, less intelligent, with uncontrolled, addictive, primitive personalities, with a subculture, with an inferior mentality, with more children – your reaction, if you find yourselves driving through a poor area, is embarrassment and confusion that your fellow humans are in this sorry state, but you are likely to be taken over by this something – where it comes from or what it is, we have no idea – and we dont even grasp we have been taken over – we just maybe say or think something slanderous and contemptuous and drive on without ever thinking about it or realising we said something we dont believe
we feel bad when we wake up and return to our minds, which shows that we dont agree with what the something said or did, and shows we dont realise we have been taken over – we think we did it – even though we dont agree with what the something did, which clearly shows it wasnt us – we feel so bad, we are likely to try to defend the position, which wasnt ours anyway, or get angry at anyone who points out what the something did, as if the person was criticising us
we humans have a large psychology that we share with no other animals – and which we have yet to be objective and scientific about, which we have yet to begin to find any theories to explain –
this something that takes us over without our noticing it, although we dont agree with it, was it something that came with the cortical brain? – psychology is a very young science – we are only slowly becoming aware and observant in a dispassionate, objective, cool, calm, scientific way – i think we were made by microsoft!
if we suddenly completely woke up, how amazed we would be at how much of the time we are taken over by something we dont agree with, how amazed we would be that we never noticed!
instead of seeing that we have been taken over by something, we assume we did it, and then try to rationalise the behaviour to fit in with our beliefs – so we never find out we have been taken over! – we get ‘sensitive’ about it [which shows we dont agree with it, from which we should deduce it isnt us] and try to rationalise it in terms of our beliefs
imagine discovering a hitherto unknown culture that spends its time making things and giving the things to one among themselves – to an incredible extent, making heaps and heaps of things and giving them to one among themselves, to the extent of neglecting their own health and safety and comfort and even their lives, doing very dangerous things, even, and only very very pleased to see the one special person with heaps and heaps of things
imagine you ask the tribespeople: why do you give so much to that person? – oh, he is such a great person, he deserves everything we give him – why is he a great person, what does he do? – and they look at you as though you are a halfwit, and say: see, cant you see how great he is, look at all the things he has! a great person, a tremendous person, a great benefactor to the tribe!
hmmm, well, what about those people there, they are working so hard making things that they dont have enough to eat – oh them, they are an inferior breed, irresponsible, unintelligent, ignorant, spongers, loafers, sex-addicts, too much time on their hands, no self-control, large families, their leaders are corrupt, they are always fighting amongst themselves – we help them out sometimes, but it’s a bummer for the rest of us
but ive been watching them, and people keep coming and taking things they make and giving them to the special person – what? oh no they dont, i dont see anything like that – but look there, they are fighting with him, trying to stop him taking their food, but he is too strong, and he has taken their food, and now, look, they are fighting each other over some scrap in the dust – well, that’s like i said, you see, no selfcontrol, like animals, really – but why dont you take some of that great heap of food the special person has, and give it to them? – oh no, that wouldnt be the right thing to do at all, that would just perpetuate the problem – they would be even more lazy if you did that – no, im afraid it is a matter of having to be cruel to be kind – they have to learn to take responsibility for their actions – clean their own nest

the third world is giving aid to the first world to the tune of US$ 200 billion a year [Kofi Annan, UN Sec.Gen.] – [ie, repayments exceed loans by that amount] – although, after centuries of slaverobbing and plunder [euphemism: colonialism], africa’s economy is smaller than italy’s – we have given bill gates US$ 500,000 for every hour he has worked – there is enough income for every worker including housewives and tertiary students to be paid US$ 15 an hour [2006AD, doubling every 12 years or so] – there is enough income for every family working average hard to have US$ 75,000 a year – ie, the family working average hard creates US$ 75,000 of goods and services a year – 99% of humans are getting less than that – 75% of americans are getting less than that – 90% of humans get US$ 7500 to US$ 75 a year – the fighting has in 50 years suddenly escalated from destroying cities to the brink of human extinction, thanks to e=mc2 [the smoke from ww3 blocks out the sun permanently – triple iceage] – you cannot travel rapidly towards a place without soon arrivingAnswer by aKu
