A breeder is your best, safest and cheapest bet. But you can rescue one also. Look at : kijiji.com or upatsix.com or birdsnway.com for online free classifieds. You will find people who don’t want their birds anymore and breeders on those classifieds. Sometimes an adopted bird is cheaper because the owner will add the cage and toys. Plus then you’ve done a good thing giving a parrot a permanent home. Green quakers 150-200$ , blue quakers 250-350$ depending on your area and availability. Then there are the more rare quakers, yellow and white that are very expensive. Jo
Kenny…here’s how you find your bird and the price. Google: exotic bird breeder quaker directory. You will find a number of directories will appear, usually birdbreeders.com is among the first, but there are alot more too…You’re going to want to check around a bit, but there should be no problem findng several Quaker breeders in your area, whatever area that is… Each will provide you with a search page where you can chose your state and the bird you are seeking. Click on a couple of the breeders near you and they will usually list what they have available and the prices.
Buying from breeders is usually less expensive than pet shops, and you can usually get alot of good, RELIABLE, information from them when you do the deal. Finally, be sure that there is some sort of warranty period on the bird..I no longer have much contact with the breeder types, but I would see what they are offering…
Finally, make sure you get alot of information from the breeder about how to care for the chick, the food it’s been eating , how far along the weaning trail it is, etc…I assume that this is your first baby bird, so I’d play it safe if I were you and get a fully weaned and feeding bird…maybe a little less of the fostering experience you had in mind…but alot safer for both of you the first time out….
Good luck and best wishes…
EDIT…Wait a minute…Amazon.com….if a quaker were an amazon, which it is not…I’d suspect you were having a go at us bird types here….Say it ain’t so, Ken..
