When should I start buying things for my dorm?

Miss Lovely Candi: When should I start buying things for my dorm?
i don’t know if it’s too soon to start buying things for my dorm. we just finished for the summer, but in the fall, both me and the girl i’m rooming with will be commuters- turned -residents, so we have nothing, but know what we need. we move in on august 13th. some people say it’s best to buy things gradually, like when we see them on sale, and others say to wait. should we start buying things now? to avoid last minute shopping?

Wait till the last minute, hit the yard sales just before you need to move in.

Avoid last minute shopping! There will definitely be things that you forget about buying at the end and will have to get. Also, if you procrastinate it will make moving even more stressful. If you give yourself time to look you can also compare and find better deals.

My number one suggestion is by a memory foam for your bed. I didn’t think about it freshman year and my poor back suffered.

Good Luck!

Make a list now, so you won’t forget anything later. You can find lists on the internet and such, then choose and pick what you want. I know Bed, Bath & Beyond had a generic one which was actually pretty great. Keep an eye on sales, but a lot of them will be later on closer to the start of school. Honestly, I got about 95% of my stuff at Bed, Bath & Beyond – they have a wonderful selection and good quality items and decent prices. I think I dropped about $ 500 on stuff for my dorm, but I think I had one of the most comfortable dorm rooms! But by making a list now and keeping it safe, you won’t forget anything in the last minute shopping sales. The stores know college is starting then and keep a good stock that will be coming in frequently until the “season” is over.

Good luck!

For freshman year just get the stuff ahead of time. You’ll be paying more than if you wait until the last minute, but if a store runs out of something at the end of the summer they may not order more back for awhile. Just spend the extra money now for things you’ll be using for the next 4 years (especially TwinXL stuff!). Pillows, detergent, etc. can wait, but anything specific to college (shower caddies, twinXL anything, laundry bags) get now. Bed Bath and Beyond always has excellent prices. I ordered my stuff at home (California) and scanned it all, then when I went to Bed Bath and Beyond at school (Pennsylvania) it was all ready for me there to pick up.

Next year wait til Target has their sale so you can replace things.
