when did your child really start getting excited about Santa leaving presents?

Ashley ♥Aislings Mum♥ {09.25.08}: when did your child really start getting excited about Santa leaving presents?
My daughter is only 2, so she doesn’t really understand the whole Santa thing yet. I’ve been making sure to point out Santa every time we see a picture or something and telling her that he will be leaving a present under the tree for her to open on Christmas morning. But she obviously doesn’t understand yet.

How old were your kids when they understood the whole Santa comes down the chimney on Christmas Eve after bed to leave presents under the tree?

Well i remember getting excited when i was three and a half. It took time for me to understand it. I completely lost faith in Santa (even though my mom would convince me) when i was about 8. Trust me, kids are smarter than that

Around 5

Before that they were either kinda scared of Santa or didn’t really care much about him at all.

Around 4 or so? My 5 and 7 year olds are at the peak age right now. They’ve already been talking about the fat man for weeks. Planning their Christmas lists, talking about going to see him at the mall, we’ll watch him on NORAD on Christmas Eve, etc. We keep reminding my 2-year-old, but she still hasn’t completely warmed up to the idea. Her latest response when asked how she feels about Santa? “He makes my legs feel funny.” Question mark…?

Last week my daughter started seeing commercials, toy store fliers, things at the store..etc and started saying “Sanka Caus? Pweese?” So she just started understanding that there is a Santa, but she doesn’t understand exactly. But now that little phrase I hear all day long. Yesterday she looked through a Toys R Us catalogs that come in the mail for hours just pointing and saying “Sanka Caus?” She will be turning 3 five days before Christmas this year. It’s such a joy watching her getting excited about Santa! I love it!

Answer by Ryan’s Mommy *TD*
Ryan doesn’t understand the fact that Santa comes in the chimney and the whole concept of it all but however, he already is in LOVE with anything Santa! We pointed out Santa a few times to Ryan and now everytime he sees something with Santa on it, he is excited. I love seeing him excited for the Holidays 🙂

–I am guessing by next year when our kids are 3 years old, they will really understand and be even more excited. Its so fun watching them enjoy their childhood!

I was 3, almost 4. So I assume that Jax will be the same (he is born Feb 1 and me Feb 11). I anticipate next year he will be really excited. I can’t wait 🙂

My oldest was about three when she started to understand that Santa was coming so we always made a huge deal out of Santa coming. Sophia, our second started to understand earlier probably because her sister talks about Santa everyday from the moment we mention it, to the moment he leaves.
