ellinj0206: When buying a garter for your wedding, is the bride supposed to purchase it or someone else?
I know there are always weird little superstitions and wanted to check on this one. I am getting married in September and getting ready to purchase my garter. Does the bride traditionally buy their own garter or is there some sort of superstition that someone else is supposed to buy it for them?

i bought my own….
I don’t think there is any tradition surrounding the garter specifically but there is the ‘something old, something new. something borrowed and something blue’ thing, so you might say have a new garter

the bride can buy it herself unless someone gives her one as part of the something borrowed something blue tradition.Answer by eddood52
The bride either buys it or it is handed down as one of the “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” traditional things.Answer by Alice
I don’t think that there are really any superstitions or traditions about buying the garter for yourself — In fact, I think it is most commonly done that the bride purchases her own garter anyways.Answer by Nik ***B2B 10/17/09***
I hope not because I bought my own.Answer by *Miss_Autumn*
Usually the bride buys it herself.Answer by HotMamacita
Orders should come directly from the brides because it’s a keepsake and they want to make sure it’s something they really like. Plus they choose the colors to either match the wedding colors or just plain white. As the bride you should also consider personalizing the ribbon with your names and wedding dates. This is not like a bridal shower that somebody else is suppose to do for you, this is like shopping for your wedding dress, you choose the style and colors.
