it is so not the same thing! If u are just dating, she is still free to date other people and so r u. but you still should make this clear if you’re Just dating, it can definitely cause problems.

If you have both made it clear that you are going to only date each other or u r “going steady,” then she’s ur girlfriend. but don’t say it like “will you be my girlfriend?” because she might have thought she already was and it will p*** her off.

I think it depends on the person saying it, but generally speaking I think they are considered to be the same thing.

at least, I consider them to be.
but otherwise you could say that dating someone is just going on a couple of dates with them to get to know them, but it’s not anything serious and they may also date other people, and being someones girlfriend is when the guy actually makes it official by asking her “will you go out with me” and she says yes.

There truly is some confusion out there with this topic. I think its best to just ask the person you are seeing directly what it means to them, just so you’re both clear. the whole girlfriend boyfriend thing is a recent trend. in the past, people may have gone on dates, but they didn’t “belong” to eachother, they didn’t have little mock-marriages like people do now. so what used to be “will you go out on a date with me?” meaning one date, to the movies or something NOW means “will you go out with me?” as in be my pretend wife for a while please. I think it’s due to the decay of morality in our society. What used to only be proper during marriage is now proper with almost anyone as long as they have an man made title like boyfriend and girlfriend over their heads.

dating is when you guys are just getting to know each other, going out on dates, and stuff. For her to be your gf she either has to ask you to be her boyfriend or you have to ask her to be your girlfriend. It is very tricky cuz some ppl think that just because you are dating someone it means you are “together”or in a boyfriend girlfriend relationship. Also, when you are dating someone you can be dating many people at a time cuz you are single, but when you have a boyfriend or girlfriend you are usually in a committed relationship and only seeing that one person

bored24/7 thanks for answering, I have often wondered this same question, and after Nick answer I begin to think I would never understand. Let me try and see if I have this, I hope I can use your as an example. Maybe this will also help Nick understand.
Nick, lets say you and bored24/7 agree that you are just dating. Then I agree also with bored24/7 that we are just dating.
So Friday night, Nick you can take bored24/7 to dinner and a movie, maybe buy her some nice flowers.
On Saturday night I can take her for a walk in the park, and then a rock concert.
On Sunday, you take her to a museum and then a play.

So you see Nick, there is a difference.
