Sean: Whats the difference between these criminal justice programs?
I want to major in criminal justice but when i went to pick it, the application gives me 3 choices, criminal justice-as , criminal justice/police administrations-as , and criminal justice/police administrations-certificate. I want to become a police officer and study more about what they do, which should i choose?

Criminal Justice- AS is an associate’s degree program. In this two year program you will learn the fundamentals of criminal justice such as political science, forensic science, psychology, legal studies, public administration and sociology. You will get a solid general education in the criminal justice field. The credits you earn in your associates degree program can often be applied to a future bachelor’s degree if you decide to take your education further. (More education = higher pay in police departments!)
Criminal Justice/Police Administration- AS is also an associate’s degree program, and would be very similar to the regular criminal justice program but it would focus more on the management and structure of police organizations and law enforcement offices.
The Certificate program probably requires a year of study. You would be better off going for the associate’s degree if you want to see more opportunities as a police officer, however, if you just want an introduction to the field this would be a good choice.
I hope that helps! Good luck!
