stephanie: What words do teens say today meant something different when their parents said it when they were teens?
My sister can’t think of any words and neither can our parents.
An example she has is fly: for teens today it means cool or awesome but for parents it means to fly a plane or an insect.

Answer by BritThe word “gay” is a pretty obvious one. It used to mean happy, maybe even before your parent’s time. Then it meant homosexual, but now if a teenager says “That’s gay” they mean that’s stupid.Answer by Yann Core

Just look at some of the lists of current teen slang**.
Most of those words will be new or be different in meaning than say 20 or 40 years ago.
Some slang gets accepted permanently into the language though, or at least is recognized when used by those who are no longer teens.
