Not as many people are going to quit smoking as people think. People in NY already pay 10 a pack so what’s another dollar?

Speaking of NY — many people buy from the reservation tax-free and by the carton. This new face-to-face mandate will put a big dent in people’s budgets for cigs.

I smoked for 10 years…gave it up after realizing the opportunity cost — both financially and from a health perspective. Been smoke free for 8-months and have no desire to go back.

I do think scapegoating the smoker is a terrible idea though — treating them like cattle and fencing them off in smoking pens for the rest to ridicule and judge.

They will save money by not having to pay for the health care of the people with lung cancer (through Medicare or the prison medical programs). This will make up for their lost taxes. Lung cancer is very costly to fight.

You won’t see it disclosed unless you watch FOXNEWS but the Democrats have plans to introduce a number of new taxes. They plan to add a tax (supposedly 25%) on soft drinks, junk food, and several forms of entertainment such as theater tickets, sports event tickets, etc. They also plan to tax healthcare benefits as wages. They want to tax forms of recreation that they consider elite such as golf, and skeet shooting. THEY will define elite. But Obama has already said that anyone who can afford those types of recreation can well afford a tax.
Losing the tobacco tax will be like dipping a spoonful of water out of the ocean. It will never be missed!
