Derek: What type of glass do homes on golf courses install to prevent stray golf balls from breaking the glass?
Someone was asking about bullet proof glass, but I’m not sure if that is actually the way to go. What do most homes on golf courses use as their window glass? Even just some keywords would be helpful, thanks!

Around here many put up huge nets to stop the balls, like at driving ranges. I’ve never heard of any installing special glass.
I work in the golf industry, and most of the time people just use regular glass. The added expense of lexan or hurricane windows isn’t usually worth it financially unless you’re right in the line of fire and you have a broken window every month. That being said, usually something like lexan is used. If you go to a home center and tell them you want hurricane windows, they’ll know what you mean. From my experience, lexan windows are about 3-4 times the cost of regular glass windows, so you have to weigh the pros and cons to see if it makes sense for you.Answer by Smokies Hiker
Most of these homes will just use regular glass and have special insurance for an “accident” that occurs from a stray golf ball. There are some “plastic” films that can be applied to regular wind glass that makes it virtually shatterproof. This is meant more for security reasons than to protect from an occasional stray golf ball because of the expense. I’ll give you the links for a video of this and other types of shatterproof glass and acrylics that look like glass.

Answer by John DarmaninBullet proof glass is known by the trademark “Lexan” and is also known by the generic name Polycarbonate. Unless your house is on the back side of the driving range, this would be overkill. If you have trouble with occasional breakage, you could try having a fiberglass screen made for the window. Any hardware store could do this for you for a low cost.Answer by A.C.R.
the golf course have insurance and you claim of them as you have the golf ball as evidence.
if a pattern develops as to problem with miss hit golf balls the insurance comp would require wire netting screens to be put on the golf course at the spots most claims happened tennis court type fencing would do..
