Mick: What type of dance is the best to larnn how to lead a girl?
I have sometimes difficulties gaining control over a dance because of not enough confidence.

What I need to learn is to “grab the girl’s hand” and start dancing with her and communicate with her thru the dance.

Which dance would you recommend to practice to develop this confidence?

Or tango.
Confidence isn’t as important as technique. Learn proper technique, don’t over-lead, and you won’t have any confidence problems. I’d suggest waltz as easiest for the purpose. I’d also suggest that you ask your instructor to change parts with you every now and then, or even follow a male instructor (yes, I know, it’s awkward to the ego). In the early days of the tango, the men weren’t allowed to dance with the women until they’d demonstrated a competence in dancing the lady’s part with other men, and that in a very homophobic Argentine society. By the way, tango would be my second choice and social (NOT ballroom!) foxtrot my third as the dance to use for learning the lead.
