Art Vandelay: What sort of stationery should my fiancee and I get for our wedding invitations?
My fiancee and I have been looking for wedding stationery but it seems to be very expensive. Today we went to a shop where they have a really good deal on wedding invitations. They give you free envelopes with all your cards. The envelopes are slightly shop soiled. Do you think we should take this offer or do you think it might look a little cheap? We’d like to save as much money as we can.

Well, one thing is for certain. Your invitations are going to get a LOT more soiled going through the mail system, so I wouldn’t worry about a bit of shop soiling on them now. Whoever receives them won’t know they were soiled before going into the mail system. Anyway – I know for myself that I never even bother looking at the envelope when I receive mail. I open it and take out the invitation and throw away the envelope. I think you should go ahead and take advantage of this stationery deal. One thing about weddings that always bothers me is the amount of money people have to spend on items that are disposable. A few people might keep your invitation as a memento in their photo album, but likely 95% of them will end up in the garbage. I see wedding invitations as one item that can be purchased as cheaply as possible because of the fact that they will end up in the garbage sooner rather than later. Save your money for the items that you want the memories to be formed around – the wedding dress, the meal, the venue. There are wedding invitations that can be had cheaper. Online services offer printed invitations that they send you in a box and you have to fold them yourself and insert the reply card. If you’re willing to do some of the work yourself you can save some money. Wedding invitations are so insanely overpriced that it’s ridiculous. The retailers have seen it as an easy way to make money because people are so vulnerable and emotional at the time of planning their wedding. They overcharge like crazy. If you have a crafty person in your family you can make your own invitations with kits that you can buy from a stationer.
I personally wouldn’t cut corners to the degree of soiled stationary for my wedding. The first impression of the wedding is the invitations . There are lots of other ways to cut corners that aren’t so obvious such as a good but not so famous bakery, deals at florist, compare prices at caterers( there are some good not too expensive ones) these are just a few suggestions. Please don’t get the soiled stationary.Answer by Kiss me Kate
i think you should take the offer….just seal them up with a wet sponge….you know the glues in some of those cheap envelopes are just not up to par…Answer by joinme4coffee
Just make sure your fiancee doesn’t lick them. Have her use a moistened sponge. You wouldn’t want anyone to get sick and DIE!
