Brittaney: What small to medium sized dog breeds are good with strangers and other dogs?
I am looking to get a dog. I live in a residence hall, so there would be college students frequently stopping by. I would like a dog that is good with strangers (doesn’t bark at knocking, won’t snap if someone pets it) and also is good with other dogs (so people with dogs can dog-sit). There is a 50 pound maximum where I live on how heavy the dog can be. It would also be nice if the breed is easy to train and groom. Any suggestions would be great 🙂

Well I have a Pomeranian, she’s a really good dog.. She’s great with other ppl.. Loves other ppl actually, she’s really smart and well trained(thanks to me lol) and shes great with other dogs too.. She barks when someone knocks but that’s my fault cuz I let it happen.. But ya, Pomeranians are really good companions and they’re super cute too and very smart.Answer by Blondie
Boxers are nice. I have a Shih Tzu/ Yorkie mix. She doesn’t bark and she’ll be under 12lbs full grown. A purebred Yorkie will only be about 7lbs maximum. Maltese are beautiful, but really are “Alerting” dogs which may bark when someone comes to the door.
My dog loves people so much! She just goes to strangers, lets them hold her, and licks them to death!! Very cute.
Pugs can be pretty cute too if you like the snorting/snoring type of dog. 😉
Answer by FidosCityGuideIt will take work, most dogs bark at knocking. Maybe contact your Humane Society for information on Deaf Dogs available for adoption.
A well socialized dog will not snap if petted, and is good with other dogs. 50 lbs leaves a lot open. I would suggest visiting your local shelter and humane Society, attending adoption events to find a dog that you love and will love you.
Put you focus more on the dog than on the breed. I know Pit Bulls that would fit your description, my Yorkie would not. What you are looking for is personality and training not a breed.
Hope you find the right dog for you.
Answer by WolfHauntWell I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Chihuahua mix and she doesn’t ever bark, LOVES people and EVERYTHING else, and is only like 7 pounds. You could try finding a Cavalier mix, they are great dogs.Answer by LeahC

Those who’s owners WORK at making them so=training, not breed!Answer by daniel
A boxer, weimaraner, border collie, labs, pitbull. all these are good as long as you get them from a trusted breeder (not a petshop) are active and start the training early. They are still trainable when mature but it is a little more difficult mainly due to stubborness.Answer by Schmuck A. linsky
West highland white terrier
