Don S: What percentage of the parents actually spend some time helping their kids with homework?
I have been a volunteer tutor in 6ht grade math since retiring over five years ago. It’s sad to say that even at this grade level, 80 percent do not know single digit multiplication table. Asked if their parents required them to do some studies and do homework, most replied that their parents do not care or do not have the time. We blame the teachers and we blame the system but the fact of the matter is that without the parents, these kids are going nowhere.

True my parents helped me with my homework.. my mom probably till grade 6/7 and my dad till grade 9 after that they couldnt help…
Things that we are doing in grade 9 they did in grade 12…. though no excuse for grade 6 …lol
thank you for helping those children, if you have after school classes to help them do homework maybe it will get done.

I checked out the statistics and the percentage seems to be hovering around 0%.
Thats Horrible, so i decided to do something to change those percentages,
and fed my kids homework to the dog.
Now it’s like, -1%.

I disagree in my school 6Th grader’s know how to do single digit multiplication tables. I don’t blame anyone. However most of the teacher’s have aides to help correct homework. Its up to the teachers to teach and the parents to help if needed.
My parents didn’t help with my homework. They never came to a softball game or baseball game for any of us 6 kids. I filled out my own college papers. I took a tour of the college I wanted to get into by myself. They never came with.
Why is someone always pointing the finger for someone to blame?
