pinkbblz: How can I convince my mom to let me get my guinea pig a partner?
I have one guinea pig, and he is really lonely. Me and my brothers each have one small animal. I asked my mom if I can get my guinea pig a partner and she said no because it wouldn’t be fair to my brothers, and she said if I got another one they would bond to much with each other instead of me. The little piggie has already bonded with me alot. How can I get my mom to understand he needs a friend?

well, it matters by the gender but if your not around that much and he/she is abused emotionaly a partner can make then feel happy and you will notice by the purring and cuddling. And if the cavy that depends on you, a partner may help it feel like it can trust more things and will have a better relationship.
Show her information proving that guinea pig are happier together but still keep a close relation to you.Answer by Carol
The issue here seems more like you have to accept that your guinea pig needs you to be spending more time with it. If you were giving it the amount of time it needs it would not be lonely. Your mom seems to be quite strong with the rules and it does make since. One guinea pig can and does do great if its owner gives it the time and love it needs. I have had many single guinea pigs and they were very healthy and happy. If you do not have the time for one how will you find the time for two.Yes your mom is correct, when you have one it will bond with you if you have two they will bond with each other. I am not trying to be harsh with you dear, the reality is your mom can not get each of you 2 pets, so you have a responsibility to the one you have to properly care for him and to give him at least 2 hours of one on one attention every day, if you can not commit to that then possibly you should consider rehoming the guinea pig so it will have a chance at being happy.Answer by hendo250
Tell her that g/pigs need to be kept in at least pairs, or they will get lonely, especially a little boar(google and research them first, then you can show you are being more responsible and not just begging for one!) . What happens when you and your brothers go to school/work, and there’s no one there for your piggy? As long as your boy is still a bub or a young, another male babe should go well with him, and then there’s 2 piggies to share around you and your brothers! G/pigs love attention and yes, they’ll bond with each other, but as long as you and your brothers give them both lots of cuddles, they’ll still be just as cuddly back to you! Good luck! Hope you get your piggy, they’re gorgeous!Answer by Animal Rockstar
its really important for guinea pig to have a partner because they can become depressed very easy. imagine living a life by yourself with no one that speaks your language! that’s scary! guinea pigs without a friend die earlier than guinea pigs with a partner. i promise to take care of it and my brothers can bond with it too. guinea pigs are social animals anyone can tell you that.
tell her everything i just told you.
good luck with your new pig!

one day sneak up on her and all of a sudden say “i love you” a bunch of times,,,, it works for me!!! LOL but also tell her that guinea pigs need a partner just like us…..we all get sad when we dont have anyone to play with,,,,, i bet u have friends that come over or a bro and sis that u play with. Just tell ure mom some of these facts……
Guinea pigs are social animals who love attention and play time.
Did you know that guinea pigs like to have roommates? They are happiest living in a pair. Keep in mind when choosing a mate, though, that a male/female pair will reproduce, rather frequently at that. If you don’t want new baby guinea pigs being born about five times per year, get a female/female pair. Two female guinea pigs will get along quite nicely, two males will not.
Rabbits are also good cage-mates for guinea pigs, but rodents such as hamsters and mice are not. Even if the guinea pig is bigger than its rodent cage-mate, it will be relatively defenseless against biting attacks.
