slimfireandrea1: What Law protect a person from getting fired when having serious family issues?
I live in the state of PA. Is there any LAw that will protect me from getting fired when I have a very serious family issue. I have been on the job for 9 months and now my wife is mentally Ill and have to be supervised with the children until get get clearance? Can someone help me out?

There is the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) leave that you may be to request from your job.
“The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) was signed into law in 1993 as a means of addressing the changing needs of workers’ family responsibilities. Under the law, anyone who works in a company that employs 50 or more people can take up to 12 weeks of medical leave per year without threat of losing his or her job. Answer by Melissa MeFMLA allows you to take time off to care for a sick family member.
You need to speak to your HR representative and fill out a form stating you need to claim this leave. It will make sure you don’t get fired, but the company doesn’t necessarily have to pay you for this time off if it is not listed as one of your benefits (sick time, vacation, personal time). So note that while they will not fire you, you may not be paid as well either (or at all).
Your HR rep will let you know more about how they handle their FMLA policy. Each company handles this differently.
