what kind of cooking oil can we use if our child is allergic to soy, nuts and seeds?

Dutchie in NY: what kind of cooking oil can we use if our child is allergic to soy, nuts and seeds?
Allergist says that our 2 yr old is allergic to most nuts and seeds and soy. Which oil should we use for cooking? Most vegetable oils are soy/sunflower/canola based, so i have to assume that those are no-no’s?

What about corn oil? Or olive oil?

Answer by ollerocmar
Oh gosh.. i don’t know. I would suggest trying to google that one. Or go buy a book specifically tuned to cooking for people with allergies. And yes, soy/sunflower/canola are all derived from nuts/seeds.

100% extra virgin olive oil. I emphasize the 100% b/c beware, some companies mix the olive oil and don’t tell you b/c it’s cheaper and usually it’s easy for countries that do this to get away with it since it is for export and therefore, less control of product. I even fry w/olive oil when canola is not available.

You can fry foods in mineral oil, but I would try olive oil or coconut oil first, even lard or butter would be better than mineral oil imho.

Answer by missgrammer88
look on the internet. olive oil

Answer by David H
I am a former chef and a light olive oil is fine for some things, grapeseed oil is an alternative.

Corn oil is fine, but check with the doctor and the label to sometimes they are processed in plants with other oils. Safflower oil is an other you could try. Check with a dietician or food scientist for any allergy issues.
