What is the strength, size and disposition of the United States Navy 6th Carrier Fleet, based out of Italy and currently reported to be mobilizing for a possible military intervention in Libya?
Does the fleet carry US Marines or ground forces and how effectively could they operate in Libya if they were ordered to strike at Government forces within 12 hours?

Marine Major General John F. Kelly” said this about bagdad.. but i think it applies to libya also
“Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal and took Iwo Jima. Bagdad ain’t shit.”
Answer by J DEvery naval fleet has U.S. Marines. They can carry out any orders given to them. I’m sure 12 hours would be an easily achievable time frame for landing forces given that we already know they are being positioned. There are 10 task forces within the fleet and most of them have amphibious ready groups. At least one is a Special Ops capable Marine MEU.
Don’t worry, Libya is mentioned in the first line of the first verse of the Marine’s Hymn, “to the shores of Tripoli”. The Marines are not likely to screw anything up when it comes to such a historical value. That’s how they make Marines, teaching history and pride in the Corps.
