What is the safest airline to travel with?

Nicki G.: What is the safest airline to travel with?
I’m flying to Denver, Colorado this summer and I wanted to take the safest airline there. I did some research and I know that U.S. Airways is supposedly #3 on the list, but there is no way I’m going with them, with all their problems. Please post the MOST RESENT AND ACCURATE answers as I know that the ratios of the safety of airlines per flight can change every year.

statistics wont help you overcome paranoia. i’ve been on a plane over 15 times and never had a problem with any of em. (about 6 or 7 different airlines)

After some research I found out that the safest airline to fly with is AIR TRAN. They only have 5 documented incidents out of their 255,500 flights (in 2010). I’d say ask around to your friends or people here on their personal experiences. Airlines have strict regulations to operate by, so honestly you will be safe on almost any of them. Good luck.

All major U.S. airlines are extremely safe and I would not hesitate to board any airline at this time. AirTran was named as the safest airline but know also they bought out ValuJet which crashed into the Everglades because it was carrying oxygen containers it it either should not have or should have taken extra pre-caution on. The U.S. has very strict standards that airlines must follow in terms of crew training and aircraft maintenance. Airlines know that they have to follow these rules or be subject to fines, possible grounding of aircraft and having a bad reputation.

I suggest you go with the airline that has the best price or most convenient flight time. United has the most flights into and out of Denver and Frontier also has a number of flights as well as Southwest.

You are <> too paranoid about this. There are about 10 Million takeoffs every year by US carriers. 10,000,000.

There has been only 1 accident, on any airline, involving fatalities in the past 4 years.

The NTSB has tons of data about accidents. This is just one of the many bits of information:

There is also a searchable data base where you can do your own research:

This shows that US Airways has had one accident involving passenger fatalities the past 10+ years.

Most US airlines are very safe! No need to worry too much and to count on those statistical data either. Just relax and have a nice flight.
