Carrie Lynn: What is the purpose of the female orgasm?
I know this is an odd question but It just popped into my head recently. Obviously the purpose of the male orgasm (ejaculation) is to possibly fertilize an egg, but what about the female’s orgasm, does it serve a purpose or is it strictly pleasure?

Well, until humans evolved to the point where they understood what came out was because of what went in, there had to be some kind of incentive. Enjoy!Answer by Amalee L

Men have nipples which serve no purpose…
women have orgasms that serve no purpose….
Women did much better out of that deal
There is a small amount of evidence that suggests it easier for a women to get pregnant after an orgasm but this is not conclusive. Apparently the insides of the female are more relaxed after orgasm so the sperm can get through more easily.
Other than that i guess it helps make people want to have sex more which for our species is a good thing.

girl above has a good point…maybe it is to feel like to “want” to mate. To be in ‘heat’ in order to let the male mate with u…something like that, I’m sure someone else could use better wording.

The upsuck theory is that the vaginal contractions increase the chance of fertilization by moving fluids about. I think they mentioned an experiment where someone tested this on a mare.
The poleaxe theory proposed that women would be less likely to move about after orgasm (having been ‘poleaxed’), thus increasing the likelyhood of fertilization, but apparently women aren’t less active after orgasm (its only the men that turn over and go to sleep…).
The clitoris is basically a females underdeveloped “penis.” Hence, why it becomes pronounced when stimulated and why it cause pleasure. So the reproductive reason we have orgasms is because males do, and the female bodies aren’t so dissimilar. Nature would have to go through alot more do do away completely with our “penis,” so instead, She leaves it there, in its minisculized form, and it allows us orgasm.

The only purpose I can think of is that it gives the woman the drive to have sex and reproduce. If the woman felt no pleasure during sex, many women (understandably) simply would not do it. Humans evolved with this trait because the individuals with this trait were most likely having more sex, and reproducing more to pass on this trait until the entire population had it.Answer by Tasha
There is no scientific reason for women to orgasm, unlike men. It’s just a pleasurable thing I guess

Answer by TimothyEncourages mating. Also, the muscular contractions during orgasm push the cervix downwards. This makes it more likely to come into contact with semen, as semen has a tendancy to pool just below the cervix after the male has climaxed during “missionary position” intercourse.Answer by Edward lover 🙂
im pretty shur its pleasure.
o yea!! 😀 lolAnswer by boomn4x42
It serves the same purpose as the male orgasm. The orgasm is the pleasurable feeling you get from sexual intercourse. An orgasm isn’t necessary for reproduction, only the ejaculation is necessary. Speaking in terms of evolution, all a male would need to do is ejaculate inside a woman, he dosen’t necessarly need to have the sensation of the orgasm to reproduce.
But this raises the question, “what would drive a man to ejaculate inside a woman, and what would drive a woman to alow a man to ejaculate inside her?” The answer to that question is the pleasure acheived by orgasm.
Through the course of evolution the women who got the most pleasure out of sex, were the women who were having more sex. More sex leads to more offspring. More offspring leads to a more sustainable population. Those women who did not acheive a pleasurable orgasm were less likely to have intercourse as frequently, and were less likely to reproduce.
The answer to the question, the female’s orgasm’s purpose is to keep the woman interested in sex thereby increasing the likely hood of reproducing. Think about it… would you want a man to ejaculate inside you if it weren’t an enjoyable experience?
Answer by jakePropagation must be driven by something. The pleasure of sex is that drive.
We certainly know what happens/what does not happen, without that drive for that pleasure.
However, we are not animals that only have that drive once or twice a year. Often only once.
Humans are given the gift to enjoy it as often as they choose, in healthy people. It doesn’t come around only when the female ovulates, although that is the time of intensity.
Unfortunately, many humans misuse it, lose control of themselves, and are so selfish that they use others for just self gratification.
We were given brains, morals, and love, with teachings passed on from the beginning of time, to use our morals to control ourselves.
There were books that explain much of this, which would be called “hogwash” by most people on here.
If anyone is interested, Edgar Cayce, “There is a River”.
It’s out of print as far as I know.
This is gone for the most part. Enough said.

When a woman orgasms the contractions are meant to help the sperm to get further up the cervix so it can get to the egg quicker. so (basically it gives them a boost up to the egg)
good luckAnswer by Smudgeward
Once females started choosing males for the best genes they could get for their offspring rather than as previously when male primates kept harems of females in extended families (being the superior Alfas that had to fight for the females it was their genes competing and driving evolution) w. ‘civilization’ and females ostensibly ‘choosing’ males the ratios reversed and there was an evolutionary explosion. Just look at film of normal people from 100 years ago, the kind of changes we’ve seen used to take a million years! Bigger orgasms also will have tended to lead to passing on those genes more frequently and there is now physiological evidence through new filming techniques of the cervix actively contracting and ‘sucking up’ the sperm it wants, no orgasm no pumping/likelihood of conception!Answer by Laura D
When the female orgasms, her uterus clenches and the cervix makes a kind of cup. This action creates a suction to bring sperm into the uterus and push it up into the fallopian tubes where the egg may be fertilized. Obviously, female orgasm does not have to happen to achieve fertilization, but if the female orgasms between 30 seconds before to 3 minutes after the male ejaculates, there is a higher chance of procreation.Answer by Will
other than dolphins, look it up, humans are one of the few species that have sex for pleasure. women have more nerve endings in their clitoris’ than men do in the head of their penis’. anyway, i hope you enjoy the fact that you are able, hopefully, to climax during sex. i know i do and i always try and take care of my partner as well.
