S. Lewy: What is the punishment for running an illegal casino in Michigan?
A business just opened in Ann Arbor and calls itself an internet cafe, but they just use the computers as slot machines. They say it’s not a casino because you don’t pull a lever, just push a button and you gamble with points, not money. (You turn your money into points, then bet to win more or less points, then turn your points back into money when your done…like chips at a casino) I am just wondering what will happen to then when the police finally come.

Well, if they managed to get permits and such, it’s likely legal.
Call the Michigan Gambling Commission. They can tell you immediately if it’s legal or not. If the cafe claims it’s ‘not a casino’ I’d be very suspicious. Police will just file a report and maybe investigate. The commission and state government make a large percentage of earnings through tax so it’s a concern to them if it’s legal.
