I have an upcoming case against an offender and it says sexual battery is the charge. What is the difference between a rape charge and sexual battery?

The definitions of crimes are determined by state law, so it depends on where you are from.
As a general rule, sexual battery could be any intimate touching without consent. Rape is penetration by force.

He threatened to send our sex tapes to my job at Virgin America so I let him have sex with me. I tried to charge him with both but the police said he could only be charged with rape because there was not enough evidence of battery.
We couldn’t convict him in the end due to lack of evidence, and the fact that it appeared to be consensual. However, when we had sex he didn’t use protection (I hate the feeling of condoms) and impregnated me! I am quite sure it belongs to him as my boyfriend was out of town for nearly that entire month. The baby will be the proof that he raped me, just two more weeks and finally I’ll have what I need to convict!
