What is the difference between applied chemistry and pure chemistry?

This is supposed to be in my book, but I have no idea. I mean, Applied chemistry and pure chemistry… I had no idea that there were such things. >< Answers and Views:

Applied chemistry is when you use known knowledge to perform some task for someone (boss; even yourself). Pure chemistry is when you do something to advance the knowledge base.
