I’ve never really heard of cold blooded horses, but warmbloods are a group of breeds that are really big horses i dont think it actually refers to their blood temperature
There are 3 commonly used terms for describing a horse’s general build and temperament. “Hot-blooded” horses are energetic and more high-strung (TBs. for example). “Coldbloods” are big, strong, and very calm. Most draft horses are coldbloods. A “warmblood” is a cross between the two, getting an energetic horse who is calmer and more reliable. None of them have to do with body temperature.Answer by Arburbula
Cold bloods are draft horses. They come from the colder climates, they generally are more laid back with their personalities. Hot bloods are horses like arabians and thoroughbreds, who are more spirited horses and come from warmer climates.
Essentially, a warmblood is a cross between the two (in the truest sense of the term) but warmbloods are recognized breeds. https://www.horses-and-horse-information.com/articles/horses-warmbloods.shtml
Answer by leeloevansCold blood generally is referring to a draft horse. Slow, built for pulling heavy things, strong. A warm blood is a type of horse that after hundreds of years of careful breeding is known as a very athletic, willing, big horse. They selectively bred hotblooded horses (Thoroughbreds, Arabians etc) to cold blooded horses (Shire, Percheron etc) to get a beautiful, athletic, strong, quick, eager to please horse called a warm blood. There’s Canadian warm bloods, Dutch warm bloods etc. They were bred for the best qualities of both types of horses.
Often, people who don’t understand what a warm blood is call any draft cross a warm blood. Draft crosses are not warm bloods, they are simply a draft horse cross.
Answer by brittbrittaeroWarm-bloods are a group of horse breeds originating from Europe. The main reason they did this was because they wanted to separate them from the “true bred” horses (Arab, Thoroughbred, etc.) However there are some exceptions, such as the Hanoverian and Trakehner. Most of the warm-blood horses are used for events such as show-jumping or dressage.
Cold-bloods are horse breeds known for a calm and sweet temperament. Mostly draft horses fall into this category. They are also known for their strength and sturdiness. Some ponies such as the Welsh are also cold-blooded.
There is also hot-blooded horses. They are the opposite of cold-bloods. They have a very excited and hot temperament. Examples are Arabians, Thoroughbreds, or Saddle Horses.Answer by Damian’s little sister due 12/6
It has to do with the temperament of the breed. A coldblooded horse is usually a draft breed, really calm and laid back. A warmblood is a little more spirited and usually a little lighter built; not as stocky as a draft. Hotblooded horses are really spirited, headstrong, and flighty; Arabians and TBs fall into this category.
