GirlGenius92: What is the best type of tennis racket for a beginner?
I don’t want a tennis racket that is expensive because I am still a beginner but I do want one that is good quality. I went to Wal-Mart(this was only because I wanted a cheap one–I’m not yet sure if I will want to continue) and had no clue to which type is considered good quality. What are certain things you look for in a good racket? Please help me out!

Whatever you get, make sure it’s light. Beginner’s may not have the muscles developed for tennis and a flimsy swing will make the ball fly everywhere. Get something that’s easy to control.
Also, a racket with a wider face means the “sweet spot” will be bigger. So, the ball can hit the racket in more places and still be under control.
Look for ones that absorb shock so your hand wont be throbbing everytime you finish hitting the ball. Also find one that is the right height. To test that, get the racket and put it on the ground with the handle side facing up. If the racket goes past your belly button, then it’s too big.
DONT GIVE UP!! Good luck!
Answer by suedegirl91I recommend going to Sports Authority and looking for a racket that is around $ 75. They generally have a very nice selection of Wilson and Head rackets for all types of players. Wal-Mart is not a good place to find a racket, as theirs break easily and tend to be over-priced for what you pay for. If you have lower power in your swing, you might want to try an oversize racket, where the head, or where the strings are, is larger than usual. This gives you greater power. However, if you have a very powerful string, opt for a racket with more control. The Head Intelligence series has a wide range of rackets to choose from that are not very expensive. Ask a sales associate there and you might be able to try out their rackets. Also, go to wilson.com/tennis and head.com/tennis to look for rackets online. Happy hunting and good luck on finding a nice racket!
Also, a shock absorber you can buy for around $ 5 is a great investment. For most good-quality rackets, though, it is included with the frame.
Answer by redsand005go to wilson.com and click on tennis, there is an interactive menu to help you choose which racquet is best for you. Wilson does have a line of racquets that are made for womenAnswer by mike
An oversized, light Wilson racketAnswer by chipmonkey22000
Try a few out in the store lol… I did. and decide which feels right. I had the same problem when I started and I too when to Wal Mart lol but like I said just try them out and pick the one that feels right
It shouldn’t be heavy it has to light to where you can swing it and it won’t your shoulder or what not also it has to hit good too lol (of course).
Also there different handles for me I like the ones with cushion. Also get the one where the Handel and racket part are a one piece because once I had one that wasn’t and it broke!
But just find one that’s for you and only you lol because I once tried my brothers racket (which is smaller and doesn’t have cushion – because I forgot mine) and I couldn’t play right at all… it was hard!!!
I would buy Wilson (one with a larger head) …thats what I have and LOVE!!!
But I hope you find one and good luck with tennis it a blast!!!

Look for any racket. Each person prefers a different racket. I like the O3 White. That has a bigger sweat spot because of the holes on the side.Answer by Lacey
any raquet that feels comfortable, grip wise, and weight wise. i started out with a heavier raquet, and i hated it so much, i have a lighter one now, and im in love with it
