i have two cockatiels they are a small parrot great pet aslong as there hand reared from birth they are very tame the males are the chatterboxes
I don’t own a parrot, but from what I have seen from tv , vet’s and personal experience, African Greys seem docile (if treated well), good speakers and do not get to large.Answer by silver2sea
Have you looked at the Conures? I have a White-Eyed Conure who is very loving, talks very well and is entertaining. I also have a Green Cheek, which is smaller than the White-Eyed. The GCs don’t talk as well as the other Conures but he makes up for not talking by being a very loving little bird. I don’t own one but if I were to get another Conure, it would be a Blue Crowned. They are wonderful companion birds, smart as a whip and good talkers.
Good luck with your new friend.
Answer by bubblesThe first thing you need to know when buying a small parrot is not all of them will talk. The reason why a bird talks or mimics is because you have treated it well and with care, and in return it talks. No one can guarantee that a bird will talk(ive tried teaching my parrot and it has no idea). If you want a bird that is friendly i suggest a conure or a cockatiel. Both bird are friendly when hand raised and fed. Males are more likely to talk, play with you or with toys and make a lot of noise, while females prefer to be cuddled, are much quiter and have a firmer bite.Remember if you want a good talker you might want to buy a green winged of scarlet macaw(they cost a small fortune though). Im sure that which ever one you get will still be a budle of joy!!Answer by Max

Well, I guess parakeets can fit into this one. They are small, very friendly, and can be trained to talk. Parakeets can be very friendly with enough patience and love towards your parakeet. They are also clean too. Also, with, again, more patience, you can teach them to talk.Answer by namanselma
Neither Meyer’s nor Senegals are known for good speaking abilities or mimicking talent. If you have little or no experience with larger parrots I would get a budgie: budgies are famous for possessing excellent speaking abilities. You should never, ever purchase a parrot because you think it may learn to speak: many birds never do but that does not undermines their value as pets.
Bear in mind also that larger parrots tend not to do so well with children and can pose a danger to them. Greys do not do well with children at all and a greenwing macaw is liable to eat one of your offspring for breakfast in one chomp and then bring the entire house down around your ears with one long, loud jungle yell. I too adore conures but the aratinga group are LOUD. Even the quieter group – to which greencheeked and maroon-bellied conures belong can be noisy. The bird will be as noisy as its surroundings, acting somewhat like a barometer. Conures are not known for good speaking abilities (and neither are greenwing macaws, for that matter)!
Cheers and Happy New Year.

You need to look into the South American parrots. They usually talk up a strom. The ones you are looking at are from Africa. Most of them are very quiet and not known for their talking. But my favortie 3 bird species are lovebirds, cockatiels and budgies.Answer by mclaren d
Quakers are very cool! So are CockatielsAnswer by worldchampatpool
A good family parrot would be a green cheek conure, unlike the african greys they do not bond to only one member of the family,
They dont scream, and if they do there scream isnt as loud as any other parrot, they can talk althou alot quieter than any other parrot,
If you are looking for a talking parrot then i’d stop now, even thou every parrot is capable of talking many choose not to, unless you find a older bird which can already talk, althou doing that will mean the bird already has the habbits its used to and any you dont like could be hard to break, thats why its always best to go with a baby,
Senegals are also great parrots, and so are meyers and caiques. all are soft and have ability to get on with children.
I Would really consider going with a green cheek conure thou, i think it may just be the bird your looking for, althou please research the parrot you want first and understand that they need alot of out of cage time interaction, toys, decent size cage and plenty of fruit and vegies,
Also if you dont want a loud bird that screams alot allthou very colouful stay away from the sun conure and jenday conure,
Goodluck
Answer by vcscallicoatI have a quaker parrot and my family loves him! He is a good talker, and repeats many things. You can go to quakerparrot.com to learn more about quakers.Answer by [email protected]
Get a parakeet/budgie! They’re pretty cheap, and if you’re patient enough, they will love you a lot! Beware, in most occasions, males are more talkative than females. If you’re going to buy a young one, it’s almost impossible to tell the two genders apart, so you’ll have to make an educated guess based on the color of their cere(The fleshy part above the beak.) In a young(3 months or less) budgie, the cere of a male is a translucent pink color. In a young female budgie, the cere tends to be more opaque, especially aroung the nostrils. The blue and purple tint does not mean anything in regards to the gender of the bird.

Definately a parakeet. Parakeets are very friendly and they can be trained to talk. They can also be trained to come on your finger at your command. Plus, they don’t overload you with work. All you have to do for a parakeet is change the food and water(daily), give it a bath(at least monthly), and clean the cage(monthly). Parakeets are very playful and cute. And they don’t bite either. You can get them at almost any pet store and they are really cheap (8-20 dollars). I have never been happier since I got my parakeets. Your family will probably feel the same way. Trust me, the parakeet is the best choice. Pleeeeeeeeeeez get one. Anyway, good luck with whichever mini parrot you get.Answer by shadow79812002

Quaker or African Grey Timneh. African grey requires a fairly large cage though.
