Sentenashi: What is stopping me from buying 10 group tickets on the london underground and discarding 5 of them?
I’m going to london with 4 friends, and need to get some underground tickets. The group day tickets cost £1 each, but you have to get 10 of them. What is stopping someone from buying 10 of them, losing 5 and hence saving themsevles about £100 as they did not buy single day tickets?

Nothing, do what you want with the extra ones. You might even be able to sell them at the entrance to the subway!
nothing it’s called a loop holeAnswer by truluv exists!
previous answers are incorrect, in order for group tickets to be valid, the group (of over 10 people) must all travel and stay together at all times. group cards are (£3.80 for those over 18) & (£1 for children). a day travelcardcard costs £5.80 for an adult & £2 for a child!. the maximum saving you will make is £10 if you are adults or £5 if you are kids. is that worth the hassle!!!!
if you and your four friends are stopped by the revenue people, you could be liable to £50 penalty fares each x 5 (£250.00) and possibly a trip back to london for a court visit and a criminal record for fraud!
just buy the correct day ticket, the money you will try to save by ripping off the system could cause you a big headache and a lot more money in the long run.Answer by jdan9
Where did you hear that they only cost £1 if you buy 10? I very much doubt that, I think your source may be out of date. The Transport for London site says they are £3.70 each. Unless you are a group of under 18s?
Anyway, if you buy group tickets you have to travel together at all times. If you were caught travelling without a group of 10, you’d be in trouble with revenue protection and possibly the British Transport Police.
