What is a scary horror mystery book that you would suggest for a teen?

Holly: What is a scary horror mystery book that you would suggest for a teen?
I’m looking for like a mystery or murder book that is scary and will make your really scared. No Stephen King books, and try to keep the books appropriate for a girl teenager. No books about high school drama mysteries though, please, like the pretty little liars series. I am okay with adult books as long as they are easy to understand and dont give long descriptions and if they are appropriate.

Anything by Darren Shan is horrofic and scary. He’s also very good with mysteries. His two main Series are called :

1. The Darren Shan Saga ( or The Cirque Du Freak Saga) – Consists of 12 books. very small so really its like reading four 300 page books. Mostly about travelling freak show, vampires, and magical creatures.

2. The Demonata Series – Consists of 10 books. Mostly about magicians, demons and what not. Very awesome series.

I haven’t read it yet, I’m getting around to it once I finish my other books, but I can’t wait to read it.

I don’t know if it’s scary or not (because, like I said, I haven’t read it.) But it’s called “The Collector” by John Fowles. It was published in 1964 (or was it 63…hmm.).

In middle school I loved books by Joan Lowery Nixon. I could read her books for hours. They had a little bit of everything you are looking for.
