turtlezr0ck: What is a quiet medium sized parrot species?
Please give me some information. I was at a pet store today and a worker let me handle a sun conure. The parrot was very nice and quiet but I heard that they screach and yell a lot! or are they not as bad as people say? I want to know a medium sized parrot that does not scream too much and that is playful. I rather have a colorful kind. Thanks!

all the bigger birds scream loud. ur ears ring for a bit afterwards too lol
Someone recently asked me a similar question and I basically replied that it depends on what you consider loud. I have cockatoos and in comparison to them – most all other birds are quite.
Conures are generally a good all around bird, but not necessarily a quiet bird. It really depends on the individual bird and how much time you spend with them.
You cannot base your decision on what you see/hear at the pet store. As a bird gets settled in to a home and gets bonded with his/her owner, its personality will blossom. This can include being louder, squawking for attention, etc.
Just as any breed of dog can bite, any bird can be loud. If noise is really a concern, I am not sure that a parrot is the right pet for you.
Answer by Gabriel VThere’s no such thing. Sometimes their personality may be quiet and in some species the females are more quiet than males, but typically the smaller the bird the lower the noise factor and the larger the bird the louder the noise factor. Birds make wonderful pets, friends and companions. Research for the one that’s right for you.Answer by kim
I agree with what KSDallas has said. Also choosing one for their colour isn’t the way to go. Many people do this & end up having problems. Beauty in parrots often comes at a cost!
I also have a sun conure. Their pitch is what makes them sound so horrid when they do scream.
A happy sun conure rarely screams. To keep them happy you need to give them LOADS of attention & plenty of things to chew & destroy. They’re a velcro bird. they will shoulder ride 24/7 if you let them. What you may consider loads of attention, the sun conure may not. For attention you need to treat than as a needy cockatoo, because sunnies are a very needy bird.
The sun conure will scream at some stage so you will have to deal with it when it happens. Sunnies scream the most if they see someone walk into the house, pull up in the driveway, if you come home to say hello etc…Sunnies like to announce everything & unfortunately you can’t avoid that.
Do your research on these birds properly. Sun conures can be amazing birds to have in the house but if you do it wrong they will be terrible to live with. Sunnies are one of the most re homed parrots because people buy them for their beauty then become stuck when they have problems with them. Research…
Answer by AshAll parrots yell. All parrots are messy and complicated.
These are wild animals that live a long time. Please do not impulse buy.
Do some research and figure out what species (or even if a parrot is right for you) meshes well with your lifestyle.
Do not pick a parrot because it is pretty…or because it might talk.
For me medium size is bigger than a conure so I don’t know what to suggest.
