Jessica: What is a good way for teens to lose weight?
I am sixteen years old and overweight and I have a lot of weight to lose, but every time I try to lose weight, I fail. I need to know a good way to lose weight that is easy to do for teens because we all know teens are not good at sticking to a diet. I know from experience. Any suggestions?

Play sports, cut down on sodas and snack, and eat healthier in general. Don’t cut out all the junk food, just a lot of it and substitute healthier alternatives when you can. Use potion control like 100 calorie snack packs. Tell your parents to stop buying junk food.
But more than anything, start playing a sport.
Answer by James WrightIf you do not want to diet then try cutting back on unhealthy foods and refined (processed) carbohydrates. That can help greatly. Cut back on bread, pasta, pizza, cake, fries, potato chips/crisps, cookies/ biscuits, dessert, candy, chocolate, ice cream, pop/soda, junk food, and all refined processed carbohydrates. Do cardio walking, running, or jogging. Any additional form of working out can help, too. Join sports and a gym. Or just go running a few times a week. Instead of driving to the store a few blocks away, walk if it’s decent weather.
Do regular cardio exercise or a cardio activity. Any activity (or sport) that increases your heart and respiration rate for a specific period is cardio (cardiovascular) exercise. Cardio exercise can be such as brisk walking, jogging, mini trampolining, or cross country skiing, etc. In addition, strictly limit all refined processed carbohydrates (apart from the occasional treat). Refined processed carbohydrates are a major cause of weight gain, insulin resistance, obesity, and many diet related diseases. If you are unsure what these foods are, you will find a list further down this page, listed under Related Questions.
Like most teenagers, we all loved our junk foods and refined processed carbohydrates. In this fast paced life people buy foods just to get something in their stomachs quickly. If you are only 15 – 20 pounds overweight, and are trying to get your body into shape, I recommend Weight Watchers. I lost 45 lbs. I don’t call it a diet, but CORRECTIVE EATING HABITS. You can eat basically anything, but they teach you to be aware of what you eat. You can still have fun out there with friends on the weekend too. So find out more about it.
It is very important you get plenty of exercise. If you can’t afford to go to a gym, take up brisk walking or jogging. Go with a friend if you can because it’s more fun that way and also safer. Don’t jog alone early in the morning or at night. Take a friend with you or even a large family dog will do the trick. Fast walking is an excellent another good source of burning off those calories. Brisk walking is an excellent way to start if you are too heavy to jog.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day. It’s important because it flushes out your kidneys, etc., and is very healthy for the complexion as well. Our body is made up of almost all water, so you need to replace it just like changing the oil in a car. Juices and pops do not do the trick.
Stay away from sweets, sugars, pastas and all refined carbohydrates. Eat salads, meats, fruits and vegetables. Weight Watchers has some great simple recipes to make your life easier and looking forward to those meals. If you really mean it when you say you want to lose weight then you are going to have to make the serious decision to do it and there just isn’t any easy way to do it but a good well-rounded diet, drinking water, and exercising.
You should lose the weight you want in a very healthy manner. If you should get discouraged and only lose a pound on the first try, pick up a pound of butter and that’s the fat you have lost.
I don’t believe there is a way for teenagers to lose weight without changing their eating habots. Being an overweight teen myself, I have to diet and watch what I eat constantly. I’ve tried just watching what I ate and exercising, but alone they were not enough. If you are willing to go on a diet of any kind, I would recommend weight watchers. It’s worked the best for me. You can eat whatever you want but still lose the weight.
A diet only means a chanhe of eating plan, it does not mean starving yourself. A good diet should be one you can eat forever, lose weight and still maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I was about 20-30 lbs overweight. I didn’t really cut back too much, but I stopped eating soda, and ice-cream. (my 2 big sins) I also joined our schools dance program. I dislike “working out” so I took every chance to go do something active. I learned how to make healthy choices without feeling unsatisfied. I became aware of my calorie and carbohydrates intake. I experienced a slow and steady weight loss. In a year I went from a size 12 to a size 4. I still indulged, just not much. I recently became vegetarian which can help some people, but it is a diet that can be hard to adapt to. Keep in mind that if you are only a little overweight (not obese) you are maturing and once your body matures you may slim down.
Join a gym and lift weights. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn. In addition, do cardio exercise to burn fat. Cardio exercise is an excellent fat burnerAnswer by kenzie
Well the best way to lose weight is to exercise! Everyday you could go outside for a bike ride for 15 minutes or so. Also, you could join sports teams and be active. You should get at least 30 minutes of good exercise everyday! I think the best thing to do is take the 15 minute bike ride daily, hit the gym twice a week, and join sports teams! Also, I have heard that eating slower can help to! Another way I’ve heard of is getting more sleep! You should get between 8-9 hours of sleep every night. And you should really watch what you eat! Sugar cereals, cookies, cakes, ice cream, candy, gummies, chocolates, chips, MacDonald’s, Wendy’s, Harvey’s, A&W, Subway, Quiz-nos…all very tempting but before you eat it, look down at yourself and think “Is it really worth it?” And besides, fruit and veggies are delish! I’m not saying go on a crazy hard core diet, just think before you eat. Hope this helps! Good luck!Answer by Tina Sipra

Don’t eat while you’re doing anything else. Sit down when you’re eating and focus on your food. Have 5 small meals a day. They have online tools that help you calculate your daily calorie intake-try this one:
Balance protein, carbohydrates, fruits and veggies, and drink LOTS of water. Make sure you sleep well, because sleep is really important. It increases your metabolism (Burning calories)
Try to walk more places, as oppose to driving/taking the bus. Balance exercising with working your muscles and doing cardiovascular exercise. If you need more specifics, just let me know! Hope that helps! Good luck 🙂
