Neris: What is a good restaurant to celebrate your birthday here in or around the Los Angeles area?
My niece is turing 16 in 2 months, and instead of celebrating it and having a huge party, she rather have a nice family gathering at a restaurant. Maximum people she will invite is around 40+? I suggested to her that a restaurant with a salad bar for example Hometown Buffet or Sizzler will do,but she prefers something else. Any idea what other places are available?

Is everyone paying for their own meals? If so, I agree that going to a place where you can pay upfront and everyone pays the same is better than waiting for the check to come and having some people feel like they paid too much or didn’t tip enough or whatever. But if she really wants something else, there are other options, like Buca di Beppo which has ‘family’ style food– all entrees serve four so you just order a bunch of stuff and pass it around. There’s a great Korean all you can eat place in KTown called O Dae Sun which is pretty affordable and will give you a private room. There’s a good Chinese buffet AYCE in Torrance on Hawthorne called Grand China Buffet that has American, Chinese, vegetarian, sushi, mongolian BBQ, etc. If she wants something more upscale but still affordable, I usually recommend Truxton’s about a mile north of LAX. Great food, private room, and affordable. Miceli’s in Hollywood is very affordable and a fun atmosphere too.
