eziegelbein: What is a good family activity that also provides exercise?
My husband and I have been looking for a good family activity that provides great exercise but is also something that our 3 year old can participate in. We live in Alaska where it is winter 7 months out of the year, with snow on the ground in both spring and fall. That prevents alot of outside activities, and we are stuck for ideas. We thought maybe a karate class (our son would love to run around and kick stuff for an hour), but no karate studio in town allows a family class. Does anyone has any ideas of how we can get some exercise year round or seasonally that is appropriate for our whole family?

you could possibly try Twister!. You could also go bowling. Get a ping pong table. A Dance Dance Revolution game for the Play Station 2. maybe a Wii.

I would suggest table tennis as this is great for hand to eye coordination. Has rules and goals for the winner. It would be reasonable easy for the youngster. It does have some moving around and it will keep U busy each day. There is a lot of Nerf activity as well that could be of interest there.
Best of luck. !Answer by carli_martinez2002
You could buy an instrument like drums to teach you son when he gets older. try even teaching him how to lift weights like those ones you see at Wall mart or Target that are colorfull and weigh 2-50 pounds.Or the best thing can think of is Jump roping, it doesent take up alot of room anyway. Videogames and Boardgames wouldn’t be the way to go.Answer by Twilight E.K.

Drop your children into deep snow then run to the car (aprox 150 feet or more away). They will exert plenty of energy runing to catch up, while you will laugh off your energy.Answer by ishmoby
Where in AK? If you live in Anchorage, join the Alaska Club. there’s the coastal trail that you can walk or bike (pulling the little one in a buggy-Costco has them) go rollerblading. there is a lot to do in Alaska, if you actually want to. If you limit yourself because you don’t want to go out in the cold, well….
I am a single father of a 6 year old daughter in Anchorage. During the summer we go camping or bike riding or walks. during the winter, we go to AK club, use the pool, or H2Oasis and do the river walk they have there. Its not as expensive as the rest of it, and its good exercise. Sledding, cross country skiing….lots of things to do in the winter, and most are pretty economical
