Michaela Taliento: What impact did World War 1/2 have on the independence movement in Libya? Did they help or hinder?
I need to know if World War 1 or 2 in Europe had any impact on the independence movement going on in Libya at the time. Also I need to know if they helped the independence movement or if they hurt it. Thanks!

The first world war started with the Italian Turkish war over Libya. The Ottoman Empire was in fast decline. The great powers were carving the empire up. France got Tunisia, Britain got Cyprus, France got Morocco, and Italy was to get Libya. The Ottomans offered the same deal that Austria and Britain got for Bosnia and Egypt. The Italians would run the government, but they had to keep the Ottoman flag. Instead Italy went to war.
While the Ottomans were busy fighting the Italians, the Balkan League (Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia) went to war against the Ottomans and drove them out of Europe (except around Constantinople). The thing was the balkan league did not have permission to over run the Ottomans. The big winner of the Balkan wars was Greece ( who won northern greece) and Serbia, that won Kosovo, Macedonia.
Having almost doubled their territory, the Serbs were ready to take on the Austrians, providing they could drag Russia into it. You know the rest.
When Italy lost the second world war, the Allies took away Ethiopia, Etruria, Somalia and Libya away. Libya was given a king, who was overthrown by Qaddafi.
