Sigh Joe: What happens during a vaginal exam and a breast exam?
i know there is a way to do a self breast exam to check for cancer, how do i do it? and what happens during a vaginal exam and breast exam?

When you go to the gynecologist they will explain everything on the first visit. When you arrive for your appointment, they will give you a gown and tell you to put it on with the opening in the front. You will lie down and put your feet in the stirrups. The doctor will then warm up the speculum (a metal tool that opens the vagina so the doctor can do a pap-smear); this may be a bit uncomfortable, but should not hurt. Then, the doctor will swab your cervix with a long cotton swab (pap-smear). Lastly, he/she will insert his/her fingers into your vagina to feel for any abnormalities.

I know this may sound scary, but it goes quickly. The first time I went to the gynecologist, I was a bit nervous. But to my surprise it really wasn’t bad at all. If you find a good doctor he/she should make you feel comfortable during the exam.

Just take a deep breath and before you know it, it will be over!
