: What does “this” mean?
In the following sentences, what does the last word “this” mean?
“The stock exchange” or “a huge, wealthy, essentially unproductive and largely parasitic class”?
In addition, “Unfortunately for my argument” means “Contrary to my argument”. Is that right?
Or, does the last sentence mean “In my opinion, unfortunately, Britain makes a lot of money from this”?
The stock exchange has all but lost its original purpose — the financing of new business — and become a turbo-charged, non-stop poker school for a huge, wealthy, essentially unproductive and largely parasitic class. Unfortunately for my argument, Britain makes a lot of money from this.

“This”, as I understand it, in your last sentence is referring to “…a turbo-charged, non-stop poker school…”
“Unfortunately” means sadly or regretfully.
I would like to add that you need to add “HAS” in front of “become”.
