Hi. I get really annoyed when SEOs use black-hat tactics, though some say that defining black and white hat SEO is not so easy. So what are the 5 most indecent techniques that SEOs may use?

Hello! I think using too many characters in meta tags in HTML code as well as including too many keywords in the website’s content are the most indecent SEO techniques.

Spamming

Correct me if I’m wrong, but BLACK Hat SEO techniques don’t work anyway, right?

Search engines ignore or penalize cloaking, hidden text, keywords meta tags, keyword density stuffing, irrelevant links, unnatural links, link exchanges, link farms, web rings, etc.

It’s these points where the black and white hats blend to grey.

Google’s Webmaster Guidelines says to stay away from SEOs that want you to link your site to theirs. I assume that is because if an SEO works on a number of these sites and they link back to the SEO, then the SEO’s website will benefit. They say not to allow your SEO to link to you from their own directory or search engine, but have you ever seen a webdesigner or SEO company without a portfolio that links to their customers?

Would you do business with a web designer or SEO that couldn’t show you their portfolio?

I can state a legitimate use of almost any technique that could be abused. I can point to legitimate uses of websites that would appear to be on conflict with Google’s webmaster guidelines.

The bottom line is to create a website that is better than your competitors and appeals to the site’s users enough for them to take a desired action.
