tou2yaj: How do you plug cable internet into your computer without using a router?
I am having issues with my internet not working properly. I want to try to plug my cable internet into my computer or laptop, without using my router to see if it is an internet connection problem or a router problem; because I do not want to buy another router. Since they are so expensive. Please advise.

You can plug your cable or DSL modem directly into your computer’s ethernet port. Power your modem off. Wait for like 5 minutes and power it back on. Reboot your PC.
However, a router buys you a certain degree of protection and keeps you safe from a number of attacks. Well worth the money if you ask me.
Answer by Mark FThe cable that goes from the modem to the router should fit in the same spot where the router is connected to your PC. Of course you have to unplug the router before you can plug the modem directly into your PC.Answer by lezgettiton
Unhook the ethernet cable thats connected to your router from your computer, and plug the modem in.Answer by Dan Y
Alright your cable modem (box that you plug your cable tv cable in) has usually to ports on the back. A 10/100 port for ethernet cables and a usb port. You can take a ethernet cable which basically looks like a big telephone cable and pug it in your computer and in the model and get the connection there.Answer by Lance
Hi, if I’m understanfing you correctly all you would need to do is:
1. Unplug the cable going into your router from the cable modem.
2.) Then plug that cable directly into your computer. Your computer should now be connected by an ethernet cable to the modem.
3.) Power down your cable modem for at least a minute.
4.) Power the cable modem back on.
If your still unable to connect go to a command prompt and try running ‘ipconfig /release’ and then ‘ipconfig /renew’.
This should get you going. If not post back and I can try and help further. Hope this helps!
