Alex: What do you think the gambling laws are in international waters?
I have a friend who is planning on taking a cruise to the caribbean some time soon. With my disapproval he went to get a fake id because on cruises to the caribbean the gambling age is 18. Anyways so when he goes on this cruise he is planning to use the fake id card to show the security guards in the casino that he is in fact 18 years old. He doesn’t loook like he is because he is only 16 and I have been trying to convince him not to do this. I was wondering what you guys think the consequences would be if he were to get caught. In my opinion it is especially a bad idea because he would have to spend the rest of the week on this ship (so long as he doesn’t get kicked off) with the same security guards, so it is not like he could just walk away and forget about it. Anyways please just let me know what you think will happen, even if you think that nothing will happen. I am just nervous for him and want to know what you guys think. Thanks in advance!

On Carnival Cruises everything is done with a Sail and Sign card. This gets money out for the casino, its your room key, and you use it when you buy anything on board. This automatically goes on the credit card that you use to pay for the cruise. I have never had my id checked but if the cruise has something like the Sail and Sign they might check that and notify his guardian. I think other than that they would probably just ban him from the casino area. He will probably get in more trouble with his guardians than security.
I doubt anything will happen to him. They will know he is under age because his age will be disclosed when booking the vacation. If they think his ID is fake they will probably check his cabin number and immediately know he is a minor.
At that point they will probably simply ban him from the casino area, confiscate his fake ID, and notify his parents. I doubt anything more will happen. I find it hard to believe they will lock him in the brig and hand him over to authorities when they get back to America. It’s not worth the hassle to them. Besides I question if you can be prosecuted for under age gambling in International waters.

But if your fake id is cheesy I’m sure they will see right through it and he will be baned from the casino floor, but i wouldn’t think anything else would happen to him.Answer by Player
There are no regulations in international waters. You should however point out that he will be barred form a large part of the ship and his parents will be informed.
