Depending on how bad the situation is, you can call police, or tell your teachers.Answer by Terri Singer
Hi Melissa,
I know it must hurt you a lot for you to post this question. I know it hurts you brother too. Such a shame. I wish parents had to take (and pass) classes about how to do a good job raising kids instead of all the nonsense classes that are required in school.
Anyway, this is causing stress in both of you. Do you have an adult in your life that you can trust and talk to comfortably that could also talk to you Dad. Parents don’t do good jobs sometimes because they don’t know how…like I said, no one teaches classes on this.
It should be someone that you know your Dad respects and likes. It will increase the chances of him having an open ear instead of getting all defensive, feeling like he’s being attacked.
If you don’t have anyone, write him a really nice letter and leave it so he can read it when you’re not around. I did this and was surprised when my Dad pulled out a letter that was so old it was falling apart. It was my letter to him. He carried it for twenty years.
Make sure you tell him in the letter that you love him and just want what’s best for the family. Tell him some of the good things he is doing as a father. He will be glad to know the truth from you, even if at first, the truth hurts. He’ll get over it and everyone will benefit.
Hope this helps.
