You need a motorcycle to ride in new york
The first place you should go is the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, either a local license branch or their website. They will have the information you need on licensing, minimum insurance requirements, etc. The website should also have links to any offered or required motorcycle training. You can also check the Motorcycle Safety Foundation website. In most cases, the MSF course is 15 hours over a weekend and is designed for people who have never ridden.
As for insurance, there are many variables, including your age, driving record, engine size, whether the bike is considered “sport”, “standard”, or “cruiser”. In general, insurance for a sport bike will be the highest.
Also in general, a used bike in good condition is a better buy for a new rider; there is less of an initial investment, the engine has already been ‘broken in’, it won’t hurt your pride as much when you drop it (and you will drop it) and if you decide you don’t want to ride after all, you will be able to recoup a larger percentage of your investment.
On a personal note, if you have no experience riding you’d be better off taking a safety course BEFORE you buy a bike, at least until you’re sure you want to continue to ride. Most courses have bikes for the students to ride and you can learn to ride and find out more about riding with a minimum investment of time and money.
Answer by jonYoure a new rider….and want to jump on a sportbike, with no experience….and ride in New York?????
You need to stick to a bicycle buddy. You’ll kill yourself on a sportbike with no experience.
Especially in New York.
