Bonquisha: What dance classes do you think are best for me?
I am planning on taking some dance lessons starting this summer but I’m not sure which classes I should take, and I want to take a few. I want to learn how to do leaps and turns (including fouettes!). I already have some experience with most of the basic jazz moves (about 2 yrs). What level of dance would be right for me?

jazz and ballet
if u want to learn leaps and turns, try ballet. since u already no the basic moves for jazz, try hip hop or tap or breakdancing. if u want to be a better jazz dancer, go for it and take more jazz classes!!Answer by Ellie
Ballet, but if you are only just starting you won’t be doing pirouettes with fouettes or any leaps (grand jetés) just yet…it will take time to get to that stage, depending on the class you go to.. Maybe modern dance.. Or you could get private lessons if you particularly want to learn certain dance moves.Answer by *balletgirl99*
I think ballet and jazz would be the best classes for you. The best levels would probably be beginner for ballet, and intermediate for jazz. And, if you do decide to take ballet and jazz, here is the dress code, for most places, for each:
Ballet
– black or pink leotard
– black or pink ballet skirt
– ballet slippers (pink or nude)
– black, pink, white, nude, or gray tights
Jazz
– shorts or tennis skirt
– tee shirt or tank top
– jazz shoes (black or nude) OR FootUndeez OR Dance Paws (I think that’s what they’re called)
Hope I helped, good luck! Dance is a great thing to do!
Answer by KenzFor leaps and turns maybe ballet and lyrical, jazz because it is really fun, and some sort of hip-hop or pop class to change things up!Answer by Phantomanna
well, it depends on what TYPE of dacne you want to dance to. If you’re talking about “belly dancing”, that is a really good way to get in shape. I recommend you do YOGA to warm up, before you start dancing… that’s what I do, anyway. I don’t know NOTHING about jazz dancing… maybe I should look that up? but yeah… choose your destiny, HAHA!Answer by Mia
It depends on what school you want to go to. To me, it seems like you need a ballet class. I’d say it would be intermediate/Advanced. If you want to improve on your leaps and turns, Stay in intermediate. You can try taking int and adv classes. and even in if to basic its always good to brush up on the easy stuff to help with the harder stuff.

Answer by sakuracupcakesI would say Jazz or Ballet as well. For ballet, I think you will learn more technique (flexibility) and good posture.Answer by Patricia
The level of dance even if you know most of the basic jazz moves would be a beginner now your not going to be able to get the perfect Jette leaps and fouttes yet that takes some time but start out with beginning Ballet and beginning Jazz hope this helpsAnswer by Summer
well, ballet is going to give you the absolute BEST preparation to do those kinds of moves as it helps you balance and gain muscle for the kind of stamina it takes to do fouettes. Ballet will help you learn to spot your head (if you don’t already know) which is also a must for fouettes.
If you’re trained 2 years in jazz, i’m not sure how much that is going to help you with leaps and turns…so move onto ballet this summer, and you’ll get there!
If you’re looking for dance shoes, i recommend Bloch’s jazz shoe. It is actually perfect for leaps and turns. It offers great support and incredible support for your arch and the sole is perfect for spinning. Here’s the link:

I’m not sure which exact classes you can take at your dance school, but at mine, they offer classes like “Leaps and turns”, “strength and stretch”, and “Technique”. It wouldn’t hurt you to see if there are any classes like that! I usually take things like that ^ over the summer, and regular classes like ballet/tap/jazz in the actual dance season. But as for regular classes, I say ballet ballet ballet! That will help SO much with your technique! I’d say you should probably start out at a beginner level. Also, if you’re interested in Jazz, you should still take a class (intermediate?).
Hope this helped!
