Banana O: Dance??????
So I tried out for my high school dance team and didn’t make it. But, I really want to tryout next year and make it. I would love to just wow the coaches and really surprise them with my improvement. So to the questions:
1. What dance classes should I take that are similar to a dance team?
2. Should I show interest in the team by going to preformances and stuff or not?
3. Should I improve my appearance and get clothes for the tryouts when they are closer?
4. Should I form bonds with current members?

I would just take classes and tryout next year. they mostly do jazz but something that could add to that would be ballet.
Congrats on wanting to try out again most people would just give up.
1. you should try and take some ballet classes although most dance teams are jazz based ballet gives you a good background in technique which is something that all coaches look for. Try taking some classes in both if you can afford it.
2.Definatley go support the team. You never know but the coaches might notice you there and see you dedication. Also that would be the best way for you to see what they do and study them. Maybe you could even take notes and include some of those moves in a routine if you have to make one of your own…and you will be familiar with their material if you have seen it many times.
3. Make sure you follow any guidlines they give you for dress. It is always best you wear black pants atleast. and something you can move comfortably in. You want to stick out but not to much you want to look like you are ready to dance. if you could see them practice once or so see what the dancers are wearing and then you’ll now what the coaches like.
4, Forming bonds is up to you but could benifit you greatly! just think if you have a friend whos “been there done that” She can help you when tryouts are coming to be prepared and maybe even teach you some of the steps that will show up in the tryout. She can also put a good word in for you and tell the coach thaht you have a good personallity.
good luck hope it helps
Answer by Shannon HI tried out for high school dance team too and I didn’t make the senior team but I made the junior so just keep trying!
1. It all really depends on what style your dance team does. But I would recommend jazz and lyrical
2. YES. Always support the team. If the teacher sees how supportive and spirited you are you’ll have a better chance.
3. Always try to look your best when auditioning. Wear tight clothing that will move with your body.
4. Yes If you are friends with the current members they might be able to put in a good word for you!
Good luck!
Answer by tigercub1. it would be a great idea to take jazz, ballet, and modern, and then later, lyrical. the best idea would be for you to be dancing on a daily basis. also, stretch outside of dance class everyday! they’ll of course be stretching you IN dance class, but it’s highly advisable for you to stretch as much as you can. be sure that you are stretching the correct way as well, take the stretches from class and do those, even ask the teacher for other stretches if there’s something that isn’t getting stretched out. dancing outside of dance class is a great idea too – practice the choreography they teach you in the class so you can improve your pick up time. then when you’re comfortable with that idea, add on your own moves. so there are three skills you’re working on that i’ve mentioned: your flexibility, your pickup time, and creativity. all these are skills that would help you secure a spot on the dance team, master all of those and you won’t have a problem!
2. you could show interest and support that way, but you can also look at it in another way. you can look at it as if it were a study. go to their shows to study the team’s movements, the choreography, and then ultimately be better prepared as far as what to expect once you make the team.
3. i think as long as your clothes are clean and don’t have holes all over the place, or in other words, if they’re still functionable, i don’t see why you would need to get new clothes, they’re looking for skills not whether or not you can afford to clothe yourself 😉
4. making friends would be a good idea, though not entirely necessary. it would be good to make friends with them as far as dancing goes, having an inside look at the moves and possible help on movement correction and criticism, but since you’re already going to be taking the dance classes on your own, you should be fine.
dance your heart out girl and that means everyday and come back and let us know that you’ve made the team! go for it girl!
