Fahim: What credit card should i get?
I’m currently a first semester freshman with an internship that will last four years-basically until i graduate. So obviously i have a steady job working 30 hours a week and i go to school full time; with this information i wanted to ask what type of credit card should i get? I know there are regular credit cards i can get at my bank which i applied for but got denied because i didnt have “enough credit history”-i knew that would happen. So should i get a department credit card? Secured credit card with my bank? What will look best and what will look bad? For the record i wont get any co signers so my parents are out of the question.
i have a debit card, i just need a credit card so i can build my credit history. Btw, i’m going to pay off my balance in full every month so that wont really be a problem.

I think you should get a debit card instead of a credit card. You cannot get into debt with a debit card. With a credit card you can buy anything you want but you have to pay it back later with interest. So if you buy something for 100 dollars and make 20 dollar payments on it then you can end up paying over 250 dollars on it. So yeah. I think you should get a debit card. they’re just as easy to use.
I suggest you consult the following article, entitled “How to Add Positive Credit to Your Credit Report” from a great website:
You should be able to find a couple ways to start building a credit history from the suggestions given.
Good Luck!
