michelle: What college course is equivalent to high school algebra?
I dropped out of high school in 9th grade (had a baby). Since then I have gotten my GED and started college. One of the requirements to get my degree is to complete one unit that is equivalent to high school algebra.
What course do I need to take?

since course requirements vary from school to school to school, I cannot tell you what course to take. However, I would advise that you speak with your counselor. Set up an appointment with him or her to develop a course curriculum. This will take about an hour to complete. Your counselor will help you figure out which courses you need to take, and in what order. He/she will also help you find out what the course numbers are for all of your required courses, and may even help get you registered.
Most likely you are looking for a MATH 1010 (sometimes called MATH 101) course. It usually has the description of ‘intermediate algebra’ or something like that and it teaches just about everything and a little more of high school algebra.
However, different schools have different names for their classes so I would investigate or talk with a counselor
For your assistance , this is the Salt Lake Community College Description of MATH 1010 : Prereq: Within one year, MATH 0990 with C or better or appropriate
CPT or ACT scores. Linear and quadratic equations; inequities;
polynominals; rational expressions; radicals; negative and rational
exponents; complex numbers; linear systems; introduction to functions;
logarithms; and exponential functions.
note: it is possible a high school equivalent course is actually the course below 1010 but my hunch is that your college wants you to take a MATH 1010 equivalent course. Good luck!
Answer by obsidian_alchemyIf that’s a requirement for your degree, your school probably has a certain course or few courses to fill it. Ask your counselor or adviser to find out what it is.
