What careers are possible with a cosmetology license?

Rv: What careers are possible with a cosmetology license?
I know you can be an esthetician, makeup artist, hair stylist, and nail technician. But what are some industry and company careers I could do with this license? I would love to work for mac or sephora, or maybe even an extension company. I know that salon is probably not the right thing for me.

You should go to a makeup school that specifically teaches makeup and styling (not cutting) hair. Also, the advantage of a makeup school is that you can be a minimum of age 16 (depending on the schools) and you don’t have to be a high school graduate.

It fits in with my joy in painting, my joy in doing make up, and I can work as hard or as little as I want. There are great products that really work. As a cosmetologist, you will be able to go in depth with your clients in skin care. It also helps the clients because having good skin, and looking good helps raise their self-esteem.
Also, we can find the Mary Kay office near you, so you can go to the meetings and learn the products. I go every Thurs. eve, and it is so fun and interesting.
With a cosmetology license, you’ll be allowed to actually give the facial if you want-some people expect us to do it but that’s up to you. I can’t because I don’t have a cosmetology license. I do, however, teach them how to use the products and my face is my own billboard. You get to use the products free.

There are tons of things you can do, You can work with product companys, Educate, Become a cosmetology instructor, own your own salon or school, Become a hairstylist for Photoshoots, and fashion shows…But really, You will want to gain some experiance in the salon. That’s kinda the whole point of becoming a Cosmetologist…and you will get better job offers if you have experiance in the salon.

Just to add to what Maureen said, You can’t go to school to just do make up and style hair. There are certain hours and certain courses that you need to take. You can’t just do styling hair. You need to take the Cosmetology course, and complete the hours. There are make up schools, But once you finish the cosmetology course, You can take “specializing’ classes for licensed Cosmetologists.
