Jocelyn: What careers are good for a psychology major?
I’m a junior in high school, an I have to begin looking into majors and college choices. I have always been fascinated with law, but as I get older, I lose interest in it. I’ve been more interested in psychology these days, however, I don’t know much about what type of careers are related to it.
What type of careers are involved with psychology, and how decent are they in terms of salaries and work?
Based on my interests in law and psychology, what other majors should I consider?

If you want to work in Psychology, then you need to go into knowing that you will be going to grad school after your Bachelors degree. There are no careers related to psychology at the Bachelors level; you need at least a Masters or doctorate to be a counselor, and a doctorate for everything above that. Having only a Bachelors isn’t good for much…it’s akin to something like an Art History degree if you don’t go to grad school.
The pay varies a lot both by job and by location. Rural areas pay less, but that’s also because cost of living is lower.
The best pay would come from being a Psychiatrist, which involves going to medical school to become a doctor.
Next would be clinical psychology, where you might earn anywhere form $ 50k to $ 100k (I’m talking about average numbers, not starting pay–starting is always low in any career.)
