Carlos T: What career options do you have after working with one of the Big 4 accounting firms?
I have noticed that many people are saying that a career not in one of the Big 4 accounting firms pays more and requires less hours of work. Can any one explain these career options?

Many your self for one.
If you are going to be an accountant, usually you will work for a public audit firm, private industry, or government.
If you want to work for the big 4 or other audit firms, the quality needed most that they may not talk about in college is to be a salesman. You have to present yourself in a professional manner, be good with people, well spoken, and it helps to be good looking. Of course you should also know accounting well. For these firms, you will likely go to your clients and review their work, advise on preparation of annual financial statements, prepare workpapers, review accounting issues, etc.
In private industry or government, you could do things like posting journal entries, reconciling gl accounts, paying bills, preparing financial reports.
Government will be less hours that the others, but will also likely be less fulfilling.
