TrueFan: What can I do for my brother before or during his deployment to Afghanistan?
My big brother is deploying to Afghanistan in Jan and I want to do something for him before he leaves that is sentimental… I also want to know what kinds of things I should send him while he is there. He and I live 1400 miles apart. Any suggestions are appreciated. I just want some clever ideas to use so he knows how much I love him and will miss him.

Get him laid i heard afgan girls have sandy snatches.. =)
Make him a medicine bag to wear around his neck or on a beltloop that has a piece of (home) the USA (rock, dirt, etc.) a kernel of corn and a kernel of rice (so he’s never hungry). With the stone (or dirt) he’ll never lose his way home.
He can’t take much, so make sure it’s small and meaningful. The other thing you could do is the best thing, and that’s spend some time with him. 1400 miles apart, it may not be doable. Make hand-made cards, all kinds of stuff so he gets lots of mail all the time while he’s there. And send him one of each thing for a buddy with no family, too. Some of those guys have no family, and even sadder, are the ones who have a family that sends him nothing.
Answer by jbYou can give him a bunch of calling cards so he can call home when he gets a chance.
A notebook to write home to answer the letters you send him.Check military support
group websites to see thing a solider can be sent or can receive.I can’t remember
the site but it mentioned things like hand wipes and other personal care items.
