PersianPrincess: What can I build/buy to keep teenagers out of trouble and off the streets?
My dream is to build a youth center like I had when I was growing up. It was far from corny and I met a lot of great kids from all walks of life. I feel like God’s placed it on my heart to build the same or something of the sort to help steer teenagers in a positive direction. I’m open to new and creative ideas.

Well depending on whether or not you have funding to build anything, you may want to first start think about fund raising. in the meantime you could make contacts with community officials, and see what type of certification you need to hold something like this. Before you have a dedicated facilities to meet in , then you can perhaps meet in a park or something. You do tn necessarily need money. You could have a book club or something. Everyone enrolls in public library and then meets in the park to discuss. Also check into existing community centers and see what it takes to perseve space for meeting. Good luck!

Nothing… I was in fostercare for 15 years of my life and I was lucky to make it out alive, sane, and in relatively good shape. If anything show them the beauty in healthy, friendly, and constructive relationships. and when I say show I really mean it. Kids normally have a better reponse to positive actions when the observe them in action. This leaves a longer lasting effect, and in turn becomes a choice for those disadvantaged youths – to challenge themselves to grow and develop as person. What ever you do do not force them or else they fight it and immediatly register your actions as counter productive to their uncocious goals – although they are probably unaware… Your best bet is to hold fund raisers and apply for grants from you state goverment. Write your congress man inform him of your project, get others in the community to get involved in, churches, schools, community centers, mom and pop businesses who’s customers are normally geared towards a younger crowd. Normally if you inform the General manager of a popular vendor ( theme parks, aquariums, rec centers etc.) they would have no problem giving you a discount on tickets to events. Professionalism is Key! And if i were you I’d put together a detailed portfolio explaining who you are, your accomplishments, success, lessons learned and plans for the future (both personal and professional). When people see that you are informed, energetic and enthusiastic about a potential project they are more likely to help out with your endeavors. Email me if you need some help,I’d love to help out and coach you through the process . I’ve something similar in the past but not of such caliber Ithink its pretty cool to see some one actually care about others as much as MyselfAnswer by Phoenix
Contact a local non-profit with the same or similar agenda and help them in their cause. It will be a lot easier with some other peeps at your back.Answer by mich
The first thing that you have to do, is seek input from local leaders, the church. . . or scout or try to make a reasearch whats the prime activity appealing to the youth in your place. FRom there, you work out a program by contacting active civic or religious groups in the community. There so much possibilities, and people like you are just a handful. After being in touch with different groups, you can decide and pick out, the project you like to fund or just sponsor or donate something for a youth oriented cause. To be appreciated and successful in your endeavor, the place and the needs of the community you decided to help must be the foremost consideration. any brilliant suggestions made by an outsider. . . would not be so brilliant if made without consultation. . . It should not only be feasible but possible in all circumstances. Gud luck! God bless you in your endeavor.
